Hi, I'm Brandon 👋

Self-taught full-stack developer — I build practical software, developer tools, and playful products, and I care enough to test the awkward parts.

I work full-time at Walmart and build real products around it: full-stack apps, developer tools, and the occasional ridiculous game idea that turns into a real system. I learn by building, testing, deploying, and reviewing the thing that actually exists — not the version that sounded good in a plan.

Portfolio: qcfailed.com — every project has a live link, an honest status, and evidence (tests that run, previews you can inspect).

🧰 Stack

TypeScript Next.js React Tailwind CSS PostgreSQL Drizzle Python Node.js Docker Vitest Playwright GitHub Actions

I started on the MERN stack and still have older repos reflecting that (MongoDB/Express). My current work is TypeScript + Next.js + PostgreSQL/Drizzle + Python, which is what the active projects below use.

🚀 Active projects

RuneSpace — browser RPG · TypeScript, Next.js, PostgreSQL A mobile-first, low-fi sci-fi RPG inspired by old-school MMOs. Server-authoritative: the browser is never the trusted source of progression — gameplay outcomes resolve server-side and persist in PostgreSQL. Includes a playable Crash Site Mining slice (auth, character ownership, mining, inventory, power cells, travel), Drizzle migrations, Zod validation, and Vitest + Playwright coverage. Repo · Live

ParkQuest — family park passport · TypeScript, Next.js, PostgreSQL A family app for discovering parks, recording private visits, and earning server-controlled adventure progress. Open source, built for my daughter. SSG park atlas (Bellingham, WA), private visit recording, stamping flow, PWA, E2E + component tests. Repo · Live

Request Minimizer — CLI dev tool · Python A CLI that imports a copied cURL request, verifies the endpoint, and experimentally reduces authentication material to the smallest working cookie subset. Real documented runs (45→1 and 41→1 cookies), CI matrix on Python 3.12–3.14 with Ruff + mypy. Repo · Case study

Codex Jippity — Linux/Codex helpers · Python A lightweight KDE Plasma / Wayland hotkey frontend that makes the Codex desktop workflow easier to launch, diagnose, and recover. Repo

Git Rich Quick — incremental clicker game · JavaScript, Vite, React A playful clicker about hiring developers and generating lines of code. Early prototype with a live deployment. Repo · Live

🛠 How I work

  • One reviewable change at a time — one branch, one PR, no unrelated scope, no auto-merges.
  • Test according to risk — pure rules, persistence, and real browser journeys each get the evidence they need, not a rigid checklist.
  • Review the real preview — passing tests don't prove hierarchy, spacing, interaction, or copy works for a person.
  • Ship honestly — accurate statuses and limitations. No invented users, metrics, testimonials, or maturity.
  • AI in my workflow — AI is part of my process, not a substitute for ownership. I set the scope, make the product decisions, inspect the previews, validate the behavior, and decide what ships.
