Here's my take: ​I think they might already have been, most of us just don't realise it, or do not want to see it? ​- Google has actual products with incredible amounts of people using them, to integrate their AI in. - ​Google builds their own models, that are competitive in the market. - ​Google holds immense amounts of data, that can be used for training and improvement. ​- Google has their own datacenters and cloud infrastructure. ​- Google even has their own hardware, the Tensor chips. ​No other company on the planet has this unique combination, as far as I'm aware. Sure the models that Google publishes publicly are not always the most frontier, but they work perfectly fine regardless, are often cheaper, and get actual use besides mostly just coders like us?
