Can we stop walking the Finder tree every time we open a folder?
I just released openpath, an app that lays a fuzzy-search palette over the macOS file dialog. Type a few characters and press Enter to jump to the folder you want.
Attaching a file in Claude Desktop. Opening a folder in Cursor or VS Code. Uploading from a browser. If an app uses an Open dialog, openpath works with it.
What I cared about
- The palette appears on its own when the panel opens. No hotkey.
- Move with ↑↓ or Ctrl+N/P. Tab drills into the next level.
- Places you use often rise to the top. ghq repositories show up as candidates too.
- Press Esc and the palette closes. The normal dialog is still there.
- Japanese folder names don't break your typing.
- You press Open yourself. It never opens a folder on its own.
The only permission it needs is Accessibility. It makes no network requests.
It runs on macOS 14 and later, on both Apple Silicon and Intel. MIT licensed, and free to use.
