In the past, as a technical interviewer, I had a lot of experience in technical interviews. If I were to conduct a technical interview today, my focus would be on these few areas: 1. Agentic AI How much practical experience do they have in Agentic AI? How deeply do they understand this field, and how skilled are they in it? Most importantly, what is their workflow in AI Agentic Software Engineering? Do they merely use AI tools, or do they truly know how to redesign and optimize the software development process with the help of agents? 2. Security How much do they care about security concepts? Do they have a deep understanding of Security Principles and can they incorporate security from the start into system design and implementation, or is security merely a checklist at the end of the work for them? 3. Scalability & Software Architecture How deeply do they understand the concepts of Scalability and software architecture? Can they think about architectural trade-offs, identify system bottlenecks, and make the right decisions for scaling the system at a large scale? 4. Lifelong Learning How much do they study? How do they keep themselves up to date? Are they truly a Lifelong Learner? How much technical curiosity do they have, and how do they turn new knowledge into practical experience and skill? ❌ But what things are not important to me? What technologies and tools they have worked with before, how many years of experience they have with a certain programming language, or how proficient they are with our current stack. Technologies change. Today's tools may be replaced by other tools in a few years. But an engineering mindset, deep understanding of concepts, the ability to learn, and problem-solving ability are not things that can be easily replaced.
