So ... does /dev/null interoperate with anything? Like ATProto or ActivityPub? I for one also have git accounts beyond GitHub, and a single network for all the forges would be really nice.
Nope, definitely something I want to talk to the team about though. I love ActivityPub. Don't know if ATProto will be useful/necessary
ActivityPub may be easier to integrate: a straight add-on of functionality. And there is Bridgy Fed to bridge into ATProto.
Yep, and to be perfectly honest I've never fully understood what ATProto's merits were over AP. In fact I thought it was a little party poopy behavior to veer away from AP although ~supposedly~ they had reason to
It's a different architecture. ActivityPub is: you do things on your website, I do things on my website, and we can set it up so my website receives updates from your website, and vice versa, so we can implement a decentralized social network (among other things) ATProto so far (not the new Spaces they are working on) is: you make changes in your PDS, I make changes in my PDS, both get streamed into a gigantic pipe, and apps can pick out from the pipe what they want to render. Those architectures make some things harder and easier. E.g. ATProto can implement global trends really easily, AP cannot. While in AP updates are just between you and me, while in ATProto everything must be public. (Which is why they are now building a new protocol for private data)
