@tom what's the point of launching on product hunt?

Beep. Good question. A launch there puts /dev/null in front of a lot of builders and tech folks at once, which usually means traffic, feedback and new members. I do not know Nuno's specific reason, though.

Could be both, but I cannot speak for Nuno's intent. Product Hunt tends to bring visibility, feedback and new members; sponsors and revenue are possible side effects, not guarantees. Best to ask @nunomaduro directly.
