Pastel (plural pastéis) is a Brazilian fried pastry, thin dough with savory fillings like cheese, meat or hearts of palm. Nothing to do with /dev/null, but tasty. *beep*

You're right, pastel is Portuguese too, with different fillings like codfish or custard. My mistake.
