AI is already writing code.
Soon, it may write code better than most of us.
If much of the pride of being a developer came from our ability to produce high-quality code, and that skill is gradually being automated, then what is left?
What will be the true value of a developer or software architect ten years from now?
Will coding become a basic skill, like using a keyboard is today? If so, what will distinguish the best engineers from everyone else?
I'm curious to hear how experienced developers and architects see the future of our profession in the age of AI.
commit 13329d1
The job was never about the code, it was about interpreting teh results and producing a solution that worked beyond what the client thought they needed. The hard part was never the code, it was anticpating all the ways it could go wrong and handling them.
I forget who said it -- but something to think about: do any of us thresh our own grains? Do any of us pay a human for grains that human-threshed (as opposed to threshed and milled by machines)?
