I outgrew Laravel Herd - mostly because I found developing natively on Windows to be extremely painful, not because Herd was in any way deficient. I moved all my dev into WSL and used PhpStorm to develop remotely. I ran all my Claude Code sessions via tmux in WSL and it worked really well - right up until the point where I was running so many parallel sessions that it started making my pretty powerful workstation struggle to keep up. So this past weekend I built a new headless dev workstation that runs Ubuntu server and I'm now doing all my dev remotely from my Windows workstation - so far so good. It's very very fast, and doesn't compete for resources with everything else I have running at the same time. It's always on, my dev sessions survive my Windows workstation rebooting, I can connect to it anywhere in the world via the Tailnet - and it doesn't come with a monthly subscription (other than my AI subscription - I'm not running local models here yet given there's no GPU)
