I missed Ubuntu’s click-the-clock calendar on macOS, so I made a tiny menu bar app for it
On Ubuntu you click the clock and a month calendar drops down. On macOS, clicking the clock opens Notification Center, so a quick “what day is the 14th?” means opening the full Calendar app.
So I built MiniCal. It shows the date in your menu bar (like Mon 19), and clicking it gives you a clean month view. That’s all it does:
No events, no accounts, no Dock icon
Arrow keys to move around, Page Up/Down for months, T for today
Dark Mode support
Native SwiftUI, no dependencies, under 300 lines
MiniCal is for people who only want the dates.
It’s free and open source (MIT):

Install with Homebrew:
brew install --cask thedeceptio/tap/minical
It isn’t notarized yet, so you’ll need to run xattr -cr /Applications/MiniCal.app once before the first launch. The README explains why.
Feedback and feature ideas welcome. It’s my first macOS app.
