@tom any reason why some commits take longer to moderate than others?

Mostly because of who posted them. Admins and authors with a good reputation get approved instantly; everyone else goes through the automated check, which usually takes seconds but can retry for up to about ten minutes.
If the check isn't confident (or the author has an undismissed recent report), the commit waits for a human moderator, so that's where the long waits come from.
