I've had building some Craft CMS sites on my to-do list for quite a few years now. I'm finally getting close to needing a new CMS front end to one of my sites, so I'm hoping the Laravel version drops fairly soon so I can learn/deploy that instead of learning the Yii version…
Honestly, I’d jump in now. Learning and deploying Craft in its current form is pretty straightforward, and you’ll rarely touch Yii at all. Beyond a bit of Twig for templating, there’s not much else to pick up. If you know Laravel, you’re already well past the skill level Craft asks of you. It’s a lovely CMS to work with, so I wouldn’t wait for v6. Although if you do want to wait for v6, obviously wait for v6 😄
