React 19 migration check: does your build actually type-check the affected code?
Two small examples worth checking:
• An assignment-only ref callback such as ref={el => (node = el)} implicitly returns the node. Use a block body when you intend to return nothing; preserve intentional cleanup functions.
• A bare useRef() needs an initial argument under the React 19 types. Choose one that matches the actual contract.
A bundler-only build won’t establish that these types are correct.
These checks are in AEG’s R19-03. I’m interested in what catches migration problems in real projects—not just what sounds good in a checklist.
Does your normal build cover this, or do you run a separate type check?
