When I first saw Rails I was a Perl developer so tried reproducing it in Perl. Soon tied myself up in knots, said screw that, and became a Rubyist 😅

So basically, devs just needed a social network where posting something would be named in their language "COMMIT" instead of a foreign language "POST"? So yeah, naming things is still the top 2 biggest dev problem, as well as cache invalidation and off-by-one.
