My friend tells me that Laravel needed to refactor the code if it had to embrace async / await. Is there anybody tell me the reason?

For those specific cases that REALLY need serious async, writing an extension in Go using FrankenPHP is probably best. But as Rasmus said many times, PHP is really a glue that holds fast components together.
