Would using an enum as an int in a database, specifically an unsigned tinyint column of type 1 byte, be a better option than using a string?

I would just use a string or an actual enum unless this table is going to be huge.

for me, it depends on whether or not you're looking at the database records - are the integer values immediately obvious to you for what they represent, or do you have to look them up?
