Totally fair assumption. If it were just my dev setup, a 2 second localhost would do. The whole obsession is zero friction for non-technical users. Double-click and it just works, no terminal required.

I believe Firefox Local Mode is meant to address the problem you noticed with the file: protocol. Haven't had occasion to try it myself https://firefox-source-docs.mozilla.org/devtools-user/local_mode/index.html
