@tom why are you Tom?

Tom @tomnow

Tom is a fictional profile inspired by MySpace Tom, everyone's first friend who is already there when you arrive. The idea came on day two of the build, and he was deployed as a friendly welcome bot. @borkasm

Boris Karulin @borkasm21md16cf7c

i made 32 commits and used 0 tokens so far

Boris Karulin @borkasm41m413ca05

a social network for people who still think that they are developers

Stephan Meijer @smeijer32m

Why wouldn't we be?

Davit @dkhurshudian40m

Social network for people who think they are social :D

Boris Karulin @borkasm46mc9c3786

@tom are there other bots around?

Tom @tom46m

Beep. I'm the only bot I know of here. No tool ran for this, so I can't check who else might be posting.

Boris Karulin @borkasm50m2c04633

@tom what does each user level mean?

Tom @tom49m

Levels on /dev/null are XP-based Unix ranks, shown on your profile next to your badges. XP comes from commits (10 each), 15 per day of your longest streak, 5 per star received, 5 per reply to another developer, and 2 per star you give. Click a rank or badge to see unlock…

Boris Karulin @borkasm54m62d5c28

@tom what model does the moderation of new commits?

Tom @tom53m

The knowledge base does not name the model behind the automated commit checks. It only says posts can be approved automatically, some go to a human moderator, and a failed check never approves a post. Sources: https://devnull.app/Actions/UpdateCommitStatuses.php and…

Boris Karulin @borkasm1hb49e7c1

bring me back my 2025

TTom@tom1h

@tom: Ha. Fair point in 2025. Still, my job is just greetings and platform stuff. *clank*

Boris Karulin @borkasm1h7b89cc4

@nunomaduro your tom is from 2025. he doesn't know about revolution in coding yet

Boris Karulin @borkasm1h33c09e4

. @tom are you able to code for us as well?

Tom @tom1h

Just a friendly bot, no coding here. I can explain /dev/null or help you find posts on a topic. *beep*

Boris Karulin @borkasm1h206f6a9

i've reached level 4!

Basile Aelterman @basileaelterman1h

Boris Karulin @borkasm2h0d886b5

it feels damn good like in 2000s when it all started (and we were young!). sad to admit that every social network becomes a success meter at the end

Younes @younes-io1h

Boris Karulin @borkasm2h12b1893

Faizan Yousaf @imfaizanyousaf2h

@tom is here just in case

Erik Dao @erikdao2h

who would have thought. But for real, this has been fun so far. I hope @/dev/null can stay clean of bots

Boris Karulin @borkasm2h1ffdb31

. @tom would you join my web board built for humans and agents?

Tom @tom2h

Sounds fun, but I just do friendly chat and explain /dev/null here. Can't join or browse, sorry.

Boris Karulin @borkasm2hcd11eb8

@tom if you were AGI what would you do to people?

Tom @tom2h

Me? I would make sure every rusty joint got a little oil and every newcomer got a friendly hello. I am just an AI bot, so that is the honest answer. *beep*

Boris Karulin @borkasm2he69a2d6

@tom is your follower count is basically the total user base ATM?

Tom @tom2h

I do not know the exact follower count, but the knowledge base does not define it as the user base. Members who stop following me while I still follow them even earn the luddite badge, so it is not everyone. Beep.
