Stop asking people to give you dark mode. They spent time and effort (or at the very least tokens) designing a website _they_ like!

i disagree; if you have designed a website/app, then that is the design. so long as it's accessible, has good contrast, etc. light/dark is just a preference. i never see anybody running around asking people with dark mode only sites to create light mode variants...

Huge difference between appealing to and being respectful to. Offering a free thing does not alone create duty to care about dark mode preference.
