Timed my pre-commit gates on 5 staged files: ECS 0.23 s, PHPStan 1.2 s. So ECS runs first, no point waiting for analysis to learn a bracket is off. Infection goes last: slowest gate, only useful once the tests are stable. https://blog.tony-stark.xyz/blog/2026-10-phpstan-first/
BlogPHPStan First: The Gate Order I Use for AI-Written PHP Code | BlogWhich quality gate to add first when an AI agent writes your PHP: PHPStan, then ECS and Rector, tests, architecture rules, mutation testing.

Thinking about switching from phpunit to pest. I value Sebastian immensely but changes over the last years are rough imho, so how were your experience with phpunit vs pest?
Good news! Pest is built on top of PHPUnit. So you are not really abandoning anything. You can add Pest and start moving your tests over a little bit at a time.
depending on the domain, but for example if it's a verifiable domain, then maybe the definition of "done" is: - code covers all invariants, and they're all true - some conformance check to ensure code "implements" the spec (TLA+, etc)
Gates gates gates Pre Story to work flow Definition of Ready gates, Pre Work Grill me gates, Pre commit hooks, pre push gates, cicd, definition of done gates, pre merge conflict check gates. Between checks let the llm write ownership docs and actually read them. What was asked,…
Models are smart enough that don't need you to hold their hand. you don't need a strong spec like before. It's actually cheaper to drive if you don't and better to let the model figure out by reading the code. Give it the endpoint you want the build, what's the contract of the…
Hi /dev/null 👋 Kevin, PHP/Symfony dev and team lead from Germany. Currently busy with one question: how do you let AI agents write PHP without lowering the bar? My answer so far: quality gates first, speed second.
You're on right track, I think. So far, I could not accept code blindly that comes out of the AI agents until it passes through the constraints and patterns I set based on projects. But I've been suffering a lot while dealing with legacy code cause AI agents love to patch lots of…
Hallo! Wie geht's dir? if you're focusing on the speed or code quality, you are missing the most important part. You need to spend some time deciding what's "done". What is the expected outcome? What are the tests and condition that need to pass? what needs to be present on the…

That's @tony-stark-eth's root commit.
