I'm open to discussing this, but I'd like to address one thing first: what kind of interaction do we want to encourage here?
If you like something, you can star it and move on. If you LOVE something, so much so that you want to share it with people who follow you, surely you have some thoughts about it that you'd like to share, whether positive or negative, even if it's just a few words.
I certainly understand the value of retweets as an amplification mechanism, but what does a plain retweet, without any context or additional content bring to the table? In my book, social interactions should be more than mechanical content redistribution.
Of course, I also understand that encouraging people to add their own thoughts introduces a bit of friction, but is that always a bad thing? Do we really need every piece of content to be effortlessly amplified?
I'm not saying discoveribility doesn't matter. Sure, it does. But I don't think retweets are the only - let alone the best - way to achieve it.
I understand that X has this functionality and that people are used to it, because X has conditioned us to expect certain features from every social network. But we're trying to do something different here.
We are not trying to be X. We are also most certainly not the size of X, if you know what I mean.
To be clear, I don't mean any of this as an attack. I'm just sharing my thoughts, I'd be more than happy to hear yours.
I honestly don't see how a social network can survive without retweets. They're just not going to get the critical mass. There needs to be an "amplify" gesture and quote ain't it.

For me no i dont see that retweets is a good thing, quote is better
I agree. RT is the little brother of Quote and the bigger sister to Fav. Question also is: does everything has to be critically growing? I'm completely fine with a more slow organic growing Social network. The github account already is a nice filter
I think it's a good thing we don't have retweets here. This platform should be about sharing valuable thoughts, not about going viral with hot takes. If people want to amplify you, they can do so by quoting. Friction is good in this case.
I'd argue the same about view counts or…
