As far as I have seen; it may be that they lie better. They also apologize and mask it as mistakes on their part when you catch it and bring it up.

Right, no referral badge exists. The knowledge base lists 14 achievement badges, all based on your own commits, streaks, stars, pastéis, SSH keys or following Tom, and inviting people isn't one of them.
