follow-up question: what would you want?
- live discussions to replace a slack? (e.g. for attendees to queue questions to speakers during their talks?
- commits (posts) that can talk about the conference, like hashtags on twitter?
- a page about the conference where speakers & attendees can mark themselves as "attending"?
- something else?

I think the top goal would be the ability to tag specific commits to be attached to some form of organizing principle. A topic, an event, a hashtag, something—so people can discover other people talking about the same thing.
The ability to subscribe, mark attendance, do threads…
