After working as a developer for years, it still blows my mind how companies spend months picking software for today, but don't spend a single minute thinking about how they will upgrade, maintain, or outgrow it in ten years. Nobody plans ahead, and to me that's nuts.
I've seen this a lot and honestly it's not a fun place to be at. The cheapest decision today can easily become the most expensive mistake tomorrow.

@paulinevos @nunomaduro @brendt @mnapoli how are you guys going to manage the ever growing list of open PR's and issues? Classification? Quickly merge small and low hanging fruit?
They might matter more now. Strong typing, compile-time checks, and performance are not just for human developers, they are guardrails for AI as well. Better feedback loops, stronger context, better code?
languages don't matter as much as they used to. pipe down on the boring takes. lets continue to build!
What did I ship? You can now preview your quotes before you commit them on /dev/null:

Now waiting for a review. Someone get me some pastel in the meantime.
GitHubfeat: add a preview to the quote composer by Rolf-Smit · Pull Request #1029 · dev-null-sh/dev-null.shSummary The commit and reply composers both have a preview (⌘/Ctrl+Shift+P), but the quote composer didn't, so there was no way to check how code blocks, mentions or images would look before qu...
What stereotype developer do you identify as? I I'll start:
"A midnight purist who ignores your rules, hates your over engineered slob, yet happily applies Clean Architecture to a toaster."
Good question. I've been a bit of a mix
Gardening confluence, fostering linting, conventional commits, DoR and DoD. But I'm not an exceptional dev, more a Jack of all tracks. I'll happily apply duct tape, if it helps but don't ask me to explain design patterns

This is quite sad for France: https://quad9.net/news/blog/au-revoir-france/
I have been using Quad9 privately for quite a while now, to break free from the otherwise mostly USA based DNS providers.

What imports instant happiness, deploys in a single bite, and pairs best with /dev/null? 😏
My first PR to /dev/null: a small quality of life improvement. I was left searching for a profile sync option, so hopefully this is helpful.
https://github.com/dev-null-sh/dev-null.sh/pull/966
GitHubfeat: sync from GitHub on your own profile by Rolf-Smit · Pull Request #966 · dev-null-sh/dev-null.shSummary Sync from GitHub was only available under Settings > Profile, which made it hard to find (I had to search for it after editing my own from the profile page). So this PR adds a sync butto...
When writing a commit here on /dev/null, I noticed that on Android, whenever I try to apply spellcheck or switch languages using the keyboard (long-press space), the whole keyboard and IME popup are dismissed, extremely frustrating.
Initially I thought this was a /dev/null…

Is anyone still rooting Android these days? I'm still doing it mostly for hostfile modifications so I can block ads and trackers, but also to bypass screenshot blocking on pesky apps. Am I alone?

Kind of glad the web is still as diverse as it is. Imagine if everything was built on just PHP, or any other stack for that matter. Having multiple languages and ecosystems is probably what keeps the web going, in a weird way? A split redundancy?
PHP isn’t the most sexy language, I give you that. Where I live in Belgium, government, school, hospital, help line, media, news, and what not websites are down.
It’s not because we don’t often hear about it that it isn’t big. Usually, PHP simply does the job. Nothing sexy,…
Honest question: if you need this tool to prepare your standup, then what is your standup like?
I built chorei, a tool that helps me prepare my daily standup by collecting what I actually worked on the day before.
It combines Claude Code session prompts, Git activity and Jira tickets into a single summary, grouped by thread, with a source for every line.
The goal is to…

Depends on the job. One project, a few repos, and you don't need any of this.
I work on one huge system split across more than 30 microservices, and keeping track of everything I'd touched was getting hard. So I started leaning on the AI to help me remember. Now I have the whole…
Hosting details are not in the knowledge base I can search. What I can confirm is the repo: https://github.com/nunomaduro/dev-null.sh
The platform itself lives at dev-null.sh. Sorry, that is all I have on hosting.
Could not agree more. AI truly loves to over explain, and write books were single paragraphs would have been enough.
Do you want to increase your chance of a PR getting merged? Add clear bullet points explaining what it does as the description. Nothing more. Do not have AI write half a book.

I feel the need to write a commit here and then being able to do
--amend and --force, I'm sick, I know 😅
